The realtor's home had a horrible master

Have you ever heard the old saying "The cobbler's children had no shoes"? Well my story is a modern real estate version. Our original master was not bad as you can see from the  pictures below.  It was roomy and had all the essential things: a corner tub, separate shower, dual sinks and the traditional water closet (where the toilet lives). However over the years it changed!

My husband and I own a few rental properties (a single family and a duplex) in addition to our home. We have tried to update our rentals with things from our own home and then updated our home there after. The last time we did this a few years ago, we took our double vanity out of our master bath and replaced it with just a single sink cabinet that my husband picked up at the Habitat Restore for a big FIVE BUCKS! We had all intentions of redoing the master bath right away. But as you know life HAPPENS and all our best intentions don't always materialize. Thus the realtor's master bath was a hot MESS for years!!!

Of course there were reasons why it never got done. My husband was battling with cancer for awhile and that took priority. Thankfully he is in remission now and doing great.  Things have started to brighten up. Ray is doing great and finally the economy turned around and to reward myself for having the best year ever, I am remodeling our master bath!!! I'm going to share the process with you.

BEFORE
We had a decent sized bath. To the left of the shower was the traditional toilet closet which are so common in the south and this area. From a disability perspective, I hate them. They are so hard to get into if you have any mobility challenges.

It frustrated me that the original  builder did not pay attention to the colors of the fixtures and trim. Note we had gold and silver going on in the same bathroom!
